FreeDr. Eggman, stealing the red Chaos Emerald, began the hunt for the remaining stones in the South Island. Sonic and Tails once again have to protect the native island, while the doctor did not get to the rest of Emeralds.
ZoneOnly in the game six zones, each of which has three acts. In the last act of zones the player must fight the boss.
Turquoise Hill - tropical levels. Boss - big turtle.
Gigalopolis in the Japanese version, the rest of the level reduced to Gigapolis - level city with the night sky with stars.
Sleeping Egg - stage, consisting of fragile platforms.
Mecha Green Hill - tropical level, completely made of iron.
Aqua Planet - an underwater level, consisting of the ruins.
Electric Egg - base of Robotnik. The base is dominated by automatic laser cannons, bottomless pits and spikes. Boss - Dr. Robotnik himself, first by car, shooting balls, then flying machine hovercraft.
