Grunge music or Seattle sound is a musical subcategory of alternative rock which came out in the mid-1980s, particularly in Washington state’s Seattle area in the United States.
Paul Ramball has mentioned the term “grunge” in an NME article back in 1978 to refer to mainstream guitar rock. However, the term has been attributed to Mark Arm, the vocalist of a Seattle-based band called Green River who was has been quoted.
