Great, fast, smart. To all those who complain about it cheating: It doesn't. It's just better than you. Get over it. Or try to learn from it. My only request is for prettier graphics :)
This application is a total vaste of time. The authors idea of artificial intelligence is a redicioulus favourable dice roll to the computers advantage. The computer ALLWAYS seem to get exactly the dice roll it needs. The most obvious example is when its locked to one roll for getting out. You can bet your ass thats precisely the roll it will get in first roll. On the other hand if it has you locked in its base, you can be sure that you will not get that roll to get you out before it has boxed you in. Don't download this crappy coded software, you'll end up breaking your phone.
I'm using this game on a touch-screen device (viewty), in rotated mode. It's great to play with the stylus once you get used to ignoring the prompts provided for keyboard play, and the display is very easy to see and use. A few more options would be nice, there is no sound (this suits me actually, but it's still an omission). As other have mentioned, an ability to clear the statistics would be nice, or at least splitting them so they are specific to the difficulty mode. Some control of screen colours would not hurt either. The highlighting system is specific to keypad play, and could be improved for touchscreen use with either an ability to turn it off, or making it 'follow' the touchscreen by showing the currently selected column and all available moves from that. At present you can select a column with the stylus, but the display will still be highlighting a different column. It can be quite confusing until you get used to it. My biggest issue is that you cannot supply your own dice moves. This is a critical mistake on the developers part, here's why: I play (in the real world, using real dice) against strong players on a regular basis; 4 hours a week for the last 8 years. I'm no genius, but I can recognise strong play in others, and this game is a very strong player. ...and that can feel like it's cheating. Being able to use your own dice instantly eliminates this accusation. However, the 'you can see the code on the developers website' argument given by a earlier reviewer is a load of hogwash, they can put anything they like thyere, it's what is inside the .jar you downloaded that really matters. And if that was compiled with a little temporary 'cheat hack' in it, there is almost no way of finding out. It's also possible that someone other than the developer could do that and surreptitiously release a cheating version that is otherwise indistinguishable. To counter that you need to trust the provenenance of the game, How many of us have actually downloaded it from the develoers homepage?
With crisp clear graphics and intuitive controls this game should score highly but it is flawed and it does cheat.
After playing hundreds of games these common flaws appear :-
(1) The cpu throws doubles 90% of the time after offering the cube.
(2) The cpu throws on avg 5-6 doubles in a row to prevent a gammon.
(3) The cpu has thrown nine doubles in a row on a few occasions!!
(4) The cpu throws exact numbers 90% of the time to get off the roof.
All theses events happen on regular occasions and cannot be classed as "random".
Works fine on my phone. It takes a little experimentation to figure out the movement.
I`ve been playing this game on the bus pretty much nonstop for a couple of months. It has everything that you would expect from a paid game, for free! Quick loading, clear graphics, excellent gameplay. I`ve become a better backgammon player by watching the AI play. No sound is a feature, not a bug. The program doesn`t hog the processor, so sometimes it seems to freeze, but that is also a feature, not a bug.
The main menu, settings and statistics are too long for my phone and you can`t scroll. There is no way of quitting it except pressing hang-up in some situations. Even on the easy level it takes long time to make its moves. There is no sound of the rolling dices (or I can`t see where to switch it on). Other than that it`s a great game.
Works on Palm Tungsten C. The movement is kind of odd - you have to take the roll in the order that it`s rolled - so even if you have one piece on the bar, you sometimes have to move a restricted piece before removing the piece on the bar.
I`d like to be able to take the dice in any order, and be able to take back a move at any point before I pass the turn.
I`ve only tried it for a day, but it is working fine. The only thing that i`m missing is the opportunity to "double" during the game.
The game is very nicely coded. Good graphics, everything seems to work fine.
It`s not cheating, you can hav a look at the code of the game and the explanation of this "issue" at the game`s site.
Dear developers, please, add an option to manualy clear the statistics. An option to change the colour of the board to yellow will be also appreciated (so that players could play on a green or on a yellow board).
Thanks for the great implementation of the game.
