"boots" quickly. nice graphics (2d view only, but that's how i like it), shaded, warm colors, looking sharp on the 240x320 display. clicking on a piece instantly puts "3d dimples" on all the spots where it is valid to move that piece, and pressing the arrow buttons jumps between valid spots so you don't have to move a destination cursor through invalid spots. pieces animate to their destination. after the opponent has moved, his last move continues to animate in a loop. the 1 and 3 keys undo and redo moves, and once again, the response is animated and very snappy. couldn't get any sound to work but i couldn't care less. the vibrate did work. this version here is a demo, though, so can't set it to any level above 1 (of 8). level 1 couldn't really beat anyone, but that is really cool since that means you can increase the level unitl you find that threshold level that you cannot cross yet (though i have not bought this get yet so i don't have experience changing the level). only thing keeping me from buying this game and maybe going with Chessmaster instead is that Chessmaster has that classic games library. in fact, i don't know that any other j2me chess program has a classic games library, does it? oh, one last thing that's i didn't care about or try, but is probably a pretty big feature for many, is that you can login online to play others. just tried it, looks like it tries to log you in onto a server called FICS. i did not have a username/password entered in the settings so it logged me in as a guest. it's kind of cool. looks like available players pop in and out of a list in realtime and you click on one of them to play. well, i'm not going to actually try and play anyone, but it looks pretty nice.
