Mobile GMaps is a FREE application that displays maps from various sources like Yahoo! Maps, Windows Live Local, Ask.com and Open Street Map on Symbian and Java J2ME-enabled mobile phones, PDAs and other devices. MGMaps can connect to a GPS receiver over bluetooth or use internal GPS features on some phones in order to automatically display the map for your current position.

To download Mobile GMaps, open http://wap.mgmaps.com on your phone in the web/wap browser. Here are some key features of the application:

  • Maps and satellite imagery: view various types of maps and aerial images, zoom in and out, mark favorite places with map pushpins.
  • GPS connectivity: connect to a GPS device over bluetooth or use the internal GPS to view maps or aerial imagery for your current location. Enable GPS synchronization to continuously move the map as you move around, view your position, speed and heading.
  • Search for places or businesses, view the results including addresses and phone numbers, get step-by-step directions. Do you want to call any of them? You can do that directly from Mobile GMaps!
  • Favorites: store your favorite places or search results to jump quickly to any of them, or send them by SMS to your friends.
  • Stored maps:New! pre-download maps on your phone and use them without going online, or create your own maps.
  • GPS tracking:New! See where you are and track your friends on the phone, or on the web site GMap-Track.com.
  • Traffic info: see the congested roads and estimate delays in major U.S. metropolitan areas.
  • Subway maps: view subway maps for New York, London, Berlin, Washington DC, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago.
  • Mobile Wikimapia: Wikimapia.org is a mashup that allows users to add tags and annotate locations displayed on Google Maps. They already have over 1 million places, now you can view them on your cellphone using MGMaps!
  • View KML files: view any .kml file containing Google Earth places, available online or on your memory card. Compressed files (.kmz) are also supported.

For older phones, get Mobile GMaps version 1.28.18 if this version doesn`t work.

Bold 9000: download, install all ok. Operation is slow or sluggish. Seems to perform as indicated. I will keep loaded and see if there are some settings that may optimize application response. Rating 5 due to speed.

this is a great program, this is the first program i have installed that has a internet connection that gave me the option to grant it full permission for internet connection (not even opera mini does that)

I tried google maps firs,t but didn't like the fact that I had to be online to view the maps. GMaps offers an offline mode and I found that quite usefull. You can download maps, copy them to your mobile phone and view them without having a internet connection. (I formated my memory card to fat32 so the maps use less storage).

great application. only problem after scrolling through map/s my phone tells me Error Of Memory/..., I admit nokia 6300 has only a small phone memory, however the application runs from my 2gb memory card extension. can you help?

There's an option Low Memory in Settings/Map Browsing, enable that and the application will no longer crash. The 6300 and all Nokia Series 40 phones have only 2MB of "RAM" memory (heap memory) available for Java applications.

I tried one of the older versions and it wouldnt work at all so I deleted and reinstalled this version. It works much better than the previous version, however, its still is a little slow and it displays some parts and leaves adjacent tiles blank. Its also crashed on my phone a couple of times. Other than that it works fairly decently.

The program works fine, but you should know that it is not true that you can use it without internet connection with preloaded maps. In its main page it says you can but when you try you will see such feature does not exists, and then in the FAQs it clearly says you CAN NOT download the maps as they are copyrighted. So this part of their promo (of GMAPS) IS FALSE!

This is the BEST app in my phone. OK maybe it's a tie with Opera Mini :) I recently had to reset my phone to factory defaults and this is the FIRST app that I re-downloaded and installed. I use it to find restaurants while traveling, I have used it to find car parts. It is an indispensable tool.
