Polka is widely known as a dance in Central Europe as well as a classification of dance music familiar with citizens within the Americas and Europe. Polka developed in Eastern Bohemia in the mid-19th century. Oxford Etymological Dictionary defines Polka as a derivative of the same Czech word “polka” which means "Polish woman." Various theories exists about Polka’s history; some say the Polka dance and music was first associated with Anna Slezakova (born Anna Chadimova), a young woman who lived in Labska Tynice.
