FreeColorbar Creator is an Android app that takes 6 images, adjusts the tint to a rainbow of colors, and adds a line of text below the image. These photos & text can be saved out on a user’s phone to be shared out via the Gallery. Future development will give more display, generation, and sharing options.
In 2004 in support of gay marriage in Massachusetts Alan Gerow (shared_boxers) created the colorbar meme style. It was originally an HTML table block of 6 colors, with a link in the text of “Marriage is love”. It was intended to be posted on a user’s profile to support gay marriage. Due to the HTML-based nature of the meme, it was quickly and easily altered to different colors, different messaging, and ultimately the colors were replaced with tinted images frequently promoting a fandom or political point of view.
