Mariachi music is a kind of folk music which originated from Mexico in the 18th century. Mariachi music started as “Son Jaliscience”, a regional folk music style originally performed with purely string instruments and artists dressed in white pants and shirts normally worn by peasant farmers. This was later re-labelled as the “Son style”, with “mariachi” as the alternative urban form.
